Congratulations!

The 2010 Visions In Clay exhibition is an amazing showing of 72 works by 51 artists. It’s being held August 26th through September 23rd at the LH Horton Gallery in Stockton, California. This is an imaginative exhibition of art ceramics, juried by Artist and Professor at California College for the Arts, Arthur Gonzalez. With over 350 works submitted, this exhibition is once again reestablishing itself as a showcase of up-and-coming ceramic artists in the United States!

Come and join us at the opening reception for this exhibition, Thursday the 26th of August, 5pm to 7pm.

The Stockton city council voted to not abscond our endowment for the arts!

Arts Endowment Fund for Stockton in Jeopardy

I hope you would consider joining us tonight in a show of support against the recommendation of the city manager to use the $1.3 million dollars arts endowment to help provide a short term plug in Stockton’s growing budget deficit.

This is the endowment that funded the grant that the local Potter’s Guild was awarded to keep going last year.

We must protect the future of the arts in this community. The grants are given out each year with the interest generated by the principal on this endowment. This was designed to be a long term solution to develop the Arts in Stockton and was intended to encourage established and emerging artists while helping mainstream arts organization expand their audiences.

An interview with renowned ceramic artist Peter Pinnell produced in conjunction with the Cup: The Intimate Object V exhibition at the Charlie Cummings Gallery. Mr. Pinnell discusses the finer points of function as it relates to handmade ceramic cups, and places cups in the context of contemporary art.

BlueDream Cairn

“BlueDream”
This is a quick behind the scenes look at studio artist Joel Blum creating a cairn for the 2010 WoodBridge show in Lodi

After throwing and flatting the form, he makes use of cut paper stencils to create the surface design…

The design then is filled in using a sponge to appliy a cobalt oxide slip…

The paper stencils are then peeled away leaving a positive/negative design on the surface. This is then multifired to create a finished surface before being based.
